Annotation Contemporary modernised and individualised societies challenge a problem of social cohesion. Today, a stress is laid on individualism whereas a familly – a main traditional form of social life based on social cohesion- undergoes significant changes. The familly always used to be a structural pattern for private life, a cement of a society and its social order, a place of social reproduction. The last fifty years, the institution of family in the Czech republic as well as elsewere in Europe, has been undergoing such fundamental transformations that even question about its legitimity imposed itself. Economical emancipation of women, withdrawal of meaning of marriage, prevalence of non-matrimonial cohabitation, increasing divorce rate and number of incomplete families and delay in parenthood are the most visible consequences of this social transformation.
