Annotation	This paper represents an elaboration of a particular task of the wider research project concerning life preconditions for life satisfaction among adolescents. The main aim of the paper is to map value orientations of adolescents and to explore the relation of value preferences of the respondents to the measure of their optimism. The target group of respondents is composed of 841 pupils of the second and the third grade of all types of secondary school in the southern Moravia.
