Psychological acquisition and deprivation of parents of mentally handicapped children

Annotation This work focuses on positive aspects of experience of parents that take care of mentally handicapped children. A part of parent’s positive acquisition is possible to explain as a part of their progression that results from facing to permanent adverse realities. These adaptive changes (labelled as post-traumatic progression in specialized publications) result from coping with exigencies linked to a care of handicapped children, from very difficult experience that parents start by and by to perceive as enriching. The research that included 94 mothers and 20 fathers of handicapped children aimed at determinants of subjectively perceived positive acquisition. The research proved relations between environmental factors, characteristics of handicapped children and characteristics of mothers as well as reported positive acquisition of parents in different fields.
