The aim of the dissertation is to present current knowledge about the practical use of information and communication technologies (lCT) and assistive technologies for visually impaired students in higher education. This dissertation is divided into two main parts: theoretical and empirical (practical). In the theoretical part author summarizes present knowledge about the subject of his research as well as presents his own findings about the use of assistive technologies. In relation to this, he also evaluates curriculum documents which are used in educational practice. Practical part presents research carried out through the questionnaires distributed among 89 high school students with visual impairments and through the interviews with counseling professionals employed in 11 special educational centers for the visually impaired in the Czech Republic. In the evaluation process author verifies his research hypothesis through the application of the statistical methods and models on the collected data sets. In conclusion, based on the outcomes of the theoretical and practical research author defines conceptual background and recommendations for the better adaptation and more effective use of the ICT and assistive technologies by the visually impaired students in the educational process. |
