Annotation Great amount of empirical studies proves the father's care and love has strong positive effect on social, emotional and cognitive progress and functioning of children and adolescent. Its deficit has a number of negative consequences. The most frequent cause of deficit of father's care is divorce. The North American pediatrie journal claims the 40% of American children experience divorce till the age of sixteen. The postdivorce situation surprisingly oft leads to minimal or no contact with the father. This state of things is mostly due to maternal gatekeeping. Children of divorce according to many studies thrive worst than children from intact families. Loss of family is getting the most frequent and most important risk for the successful development of children. Findings of studies documenting the importance of father's care and worst prosperity of children of divorce inspire searching for the postdivorce arrangement which minimize the loss of children. Programs are initiated which educate the divorcing parents. Divorce rate in our republic is not as high as in the US but nevertheless the parallels are evident and we can expect our rate of divorce will increase. We will have to come up to this fact. We must seek the way how to minimize its consequences for the children.
