Alcohol as a serious problem among pupils of the second grade of an elementary school

Annotation	Within the research project, 400 students of the second grade of an elementary school were questionned, respondents came from eight different regions of the Czech republic. We have used a questionnaire comprising 23 items aimed at general facts about alcohol, alcohol consumation and prevention of alcoholism at schools. The results have shown that the consumation of alcohol is highly tolerated by the czech society, alcohol is easily available for the children and youth. As for experience with an alcohol consumation, a frequence of desire for trying alcohol and an occurence of drunkeness is balanced among boys and girls. Relatively good factographic knowledge about alcohol is in contrast with risky behavior of children. Although the preventive programs take place at majority of czech schools, they are rather passive, non-systematic, long termed and aimed only at a transmission of information.The important differences were found among children who passed the preventive programs and those who did not.
