Annotation	The diploma paper presents a brief excursion into main kinds and functions of media. It focuses on the possibility of bad influence of massmedia and information technology on child`s development and compares several theories of media violence. However, it is necessary to point out that the reason of increasing violence at children due to media is only the secondary feature of the given issues. It is the family social status that plays a key role on how much a child is affected by media and how much time they spend using them. That is why one part of the paper is dedicated to the functions and problems of a contemporary family, because it is the family that is the key factor forming personality. The practical part contains a survey focused on free-time activities and the value ladder of the young, specifically pupils of the ninth grade.
