By accepting the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Czech Republic has undertaken to monitor a fulfillment of these rights and to submit evaluation reports in given time periods to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. This inquiry was carried out as a part of the research which focused on the implementation of the Convention. This research attempted to find out what is the knowledge about the existence of the Convention on the rights of the child among a lay public and also in the professional community. It was also investigated what people think about the importance and function of the document. This research aspires to improve the knowledge of public opinion on the child’s rights issue in context of a polarity of law, freedom, duties and responsibility of children, parents and state. This research covered 237 people. A sample of respondents encompasses people who are not connected to both formal and informal education of children (47%), teachers and educators (16%), volunteers from various associations (18%), and people, who do not work in any association but who are in some relation to informal education of children (17%). Data was collected during Bambiriáda 2003 in Prague and it was complemented by data gathered among teachers and other adults (in Praha, Chrudim and Plzeň).
