The textbook use in student´s activities in lower primary schools

Annotation	This thesis focuses on the textbook use in activities of pupils in the 8th grade of lower primary schools in Ostrava region. Therefore the primary effort was to gather the published experts´ articles and researches available and the analyse and systematise them. The first theoretical part introduces basic concepts concerning the theory of textbooks with the focus on functions, structure and kinds of textbooks. Together with them there were researched methods of preparation of pupils for lessons with textbooks and their learning strategies. The second part of the work is empirically oriented. The main aim of the research was to describe and analyse the pupils´ textbookbased activities in four subjects (Mathematics, English, History and Civics). Research tasks were: measure frequency and length of using textbooks and other text materials in learning; describe students´ activities based on the textbook in a class and to conduct the taxonomy of activities in relation to the textbook functions and structural elements; identify basic strategies of students´ work with a text and a textbook and find out if and to what extent students use textbooks at home.
