Specific Needs of Children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus at Schools

Annotation	The thesis deals with the specific needs of children with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (next DM1) in preschool and younger school age. In the first chapter of the theoretical part is defined metabolic diseases DM1. In this chapter are described also health comlications associated with DM1. Seperate chapter is devoted to the treatment DM1 and regime measures in which compliance is essential to compensate for illness. The next chapter presents specific features that come along with DM1 in the lives of children and their families, including the process of coping with chronic illness, specific features in the development and education of children with DM1. Final chapter of the theoretical part provides an overview of legislative actions relating to children, pupils with DM1 at school and describes the possibilities of fulfilling the specific needs of these children and pupils at schools. The practical part of the thesis explores what parents of these children expect of teachers. Further checks what teachers can and are willing to offer while ensuring the specific needs of these children and pupils. Partial target is to find out the awareness of teachers kindergarten and elemantary school of DM1 diagnosis, symptoms and methods of treatment of this disease. The final part of the thesis is Project teaching children about diseases DM1. It is planned for teachers of preschool, younger and middle school age children directed to introduction of schoolmates with problems of DM1, with symptoms of acute complications and other aspects that accompany the life of a child with DM1.
