Annotation The paper deals with development of social skills of pupils in primary schools. Social skills are a part of key competences which are defined in a new educational program for basic schools. Thus, it is obvious that teachers should develop social skills of their pupils during their lessons from the very beginning of their school attendance and it doesn't matter which subject they teach. In the research various factors that influence the development of social skills were examined. These are, for example, place of living (in the village or the city), the order of the siblings or gender differences. Next, we focused on communicative skills, cooperation, solving problems as well as the activity of a pupil, perception of social situations or the mental age of a child. Some pupils participated in social studies program and they were supposed to improve their social perception and behavior at the end of the experiment. The main aim of the paper is to contribute to a development of social skills of pupils in primary education according to actual needs of educational policy in the Czech Republic. A research which was realized in the first three years of some basic schools in Pardubice will be presented in the paper.
